Hey Treadlite Team
It’s already been almost 8 months since our last edition in October. Did we say it was going to be monthly? To be fair there has been a couple things going on, so there are lots of updates. Please feel free to pass this on.
Southern X Press joins Treadlite Family
For those of you that don’t know, on the 1st of May Southern X Press (SXP) joined the Treadlite team. SXP have been creating innovative baling machines for the last 20 years. Treadlite have been in partnership with SXP since August 2024 and can send up to 800T of tyres through the Bromley site in any given month. Welcome aboard Kyle, Alex, George & Steven!
Being under the same roof is a big step forward in our plan to improve outcomes for South Island’s tyre recycling.
Hawkes Bay Tyre Shredding & Treadlite Napier
In April, Treadlite took over the operations of Hawkes Bay Tyre Shredding (HBTS) owned by Byron Duncan. HBTS was a small tyre collection and shredding business making Tyre Derived Fuel (TDF) for Golden Bay Cement.
Our team have completed the move from Whakatu to the HBTS yard in Napier, it’s been a massive job but well worth it. The new site means our baling crew have moved inside out of the weather and away from the powerlines that hung over the old site. With the Napier team processing tyres from other regions, this is an awesome step forward for TL. Thanks for all the mahi guys.
Meet Murphy
Meet Murphy — our newest compactor truck! He’s just had the full stretch treatment, increasing the size of its bin means more efficient runs and lower emissions per tyre. Plus, we love that fresh new branding!
We are striving to increase compactor trucks in urban centres where we have a lot of car tyres. It’s easier on our collectors, they are smaller and easier to get into tight spaces than our bigger class 2 trucks, and they are more fuel efficient.
Murphy has just arrived in Wellington and his driver Mark is enjoying his new ride!
OTR tyres
We are now into OTR in a big…. like real big way. What to do with really big tyres, is one of the biggest issues in tyre recycling but Treadlite have made a great start picking up and recycling OTR across the country.
We have more details to share on big projects in the coming months, watch this space.
Dunedin Hub
We are stoked to announce that we are now baling tyres in Dunedin with our mates at Dynes. By doing this we are passing on the carbon footprint of our tyres in the deep south.
We are hoping to continue to grow this operation and we see lots of opportunities to improve our efficiencies in the future.
Meet Pete
We’re excited to welcome Peter Muir to the team as our new General Manager of Tyre Collections. Peter brings with him 17 years of experience in trucking and logistics. We’re looking forward to having him get settled in and streamlining our collections, improving efficiencies, and refining our processes.
With expert knowledge in E-ROAD, route planning, and long-haul logistics, Peter is a fantastic addition to the team. Welcome aboard, Peter!
Meet Charlie
Many of you will have met Charlie by now, he’s our man on the road aka the “Tyre Whisperer”, winning new customers and delivering onsite customer support.
When Charlie started, he said “ I don’t understand why you guys ‘froth’ on tyres so much” fast forward 6 months and Charlie has well and truly caught the bug.
Welcome to the Team
The Treadlite team has grown a lot in recent times! We feel really fortunate to keep finding such awesome people.
We’ve welcomed Nikki in Cambridge who is keeping an eagle eye on our long haul and exports.
Our collections and processing crew has grown with Chris in Auckland, Adam in the Far North, Darius & Tama in Napier, George & Steven in Christchurch and Corbin in the Cambridge plant.
Its great to have you all on board with us for this epic journey reducing our environmental impact and turning waste into opportunity.
Anything you’d like to hear from us in the next monthlyish edition lets us know.
